NY POST ARTICLE – FASHIONABLE NYC MOMS AND THEIR MINI ME’S

Posted on 9th January, 2012 | Tags : , , , | No Comment

Inspired by Victoria Beckham and new fashionplate infant Harper and Jessica Alba and color-coordinating daughter Honor, the NY Post Magazine has decided to profile 5 fashionable NYC moms and their matching mini-me’s! GiGi and I were chosen to be a part of it, how fun!! The photo shoot however didn’t go exactly as planned. My little 2 year old future supermodel (or maybe not…er) had a bit of a meltdown in the newspaper’s offices, but we did manage to get a few good shots of us in matching leopard print outfits. Our family photographer Lynda Renee Kwartler saved the day by providing a few more shots of us in matching pink Lotus Grace style dresses from our holiday card photo shoot.

My good friend Cherie Corso, founder of g2 Organics and her daughter Julia will also be in the piece, which is slated for Thursday January 19th’s edition of the NY POST.

Meanwhile, check out this shot of us in matching looks taken by Lynda Renee Photography…

Happy New Year, everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a bit but already this New Year I’ve been busy shooting NBCs TODAY, prepping for two Nate Berkus Show segments and a few other things up my sleeve!

I wanted to share with you an interesting convo we had with some friends on New Year’s Eve. I always say, my ultimate goal is to one day purchase a Birkin Bag. This usually shocks people, who could never imagine why anyone would want to spend so much on a handbag (they start at 10k and up). Clearly, they havent’s seen Victoria Beckham or Kim Kardashian’s collection of them. But I digress.

When they ask for an explanation, I always explain that it’s not just being able to afford such a pricey bag. For me, my Birkin will be symbolic of achieving everything I’ve ever hoped for in life and my career. You can call it shallow, but I call it symbolic. After explaining this, it led to a conversation of “well MY Birkin would be…xx and MY Birkin would be xxx.” It made me realize, one person’s Birkin is another person’s goals and dreams, no matter what form they take.

So tell me, what’s YOUR Birkin?

This is from Heather Adessa, a makeup artist and hair stylist who regularly works with me for TV appearances and events. Below is a guest post from her. Please visit her fab blog at Gloss and Tell!

Want to re-create The Bra Book’s Author, and Celebrity Stylist, Jene Luciani’s makeup from her Mad Fashion Screening for your holiday party? It’s super easy - and I will teach you how!

Always start with a clean, moisturized face

I always begin with my client’s eye makeup. So just like any other makeup application I apply on Jene, I used MAC Paint in Sublime Nature. I applied the paint to her lids and crease, right up to her brow bone. The paint comes in all different colors, including skin tones, and since they are long wearing and don’t crease, they are perfect as a base for any look!

I mixed black, dark gray and dark pewter eye shadows on one brush and applied from inner lid to mid lid – patting the shadow onto the lid until it was as dark as I wanted. If you want to use MAC shadows - Carbon, Print & Knight Divine would be the ones to choose. Any brand of cosmetics will have these shadow colors available, including drugstore brands – letting you get thise look and stay within your budget!

Next, I applied a mixture of MAC’s Coppering and Cranberry to create the outer lid shade. Coppering is a golden burnt orange shade, and cranberry, well, is pretty self explanatory =)
Mixing them together and applying them from where you ended the dark tone through the crease, while also blending the two tones, creates this dramatic, yet wild, effect.

I lined her top lid using a gel black liner with an angled brush (MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack), and the bottom lid with black eyeshadow (MAC shadow in Carbon). Applying false lashes above the top lashes, right on top of the liner (Ardell Lashes – Demi Whispies – available at drugstores $5).
After the lashes are glued and dry, I applied mascara to blend the false with her real lashes, and mascara on the bottom lashes. Lastly, I use a highlighter to highlight the brow bone right under the brow, then I fill the brows to give them more prominent in person as well as in photographs.

*TIP* Make sure to clean up around the eye before applying foundation and concealer – I love using makeup wipes. Target Up&Up wipes are my fav! When using dark shadows, flakes always fall onto the cheek and around the eye. I use a makeup wipe to clean up around the eye then I apply foundation primer to the whole face.

Cle de Peau is the only concealer I will use - it’s perfection! I apply it with a brush from right under lower lashes down to her cheek bone. Blending it outward and upward by the nose area so that it will reflect light. You don’t want shadows in photos making it look like you have dark circles under your eyes!

Using a brush, apply your favorite foundation to you whole face, blending it with the concealer. Use your powder to set the foundation, again using a brush. Then apply bronzer, if needed, around the face.

I used a pinkish-brown blush to contour (applying right under her cheek bone), then a shimmer highlighter to accentuate her cheek bone, creating that high cheek bone-look.

**This application may take a little longer than normal if you aren’t used to appplying a full face of makeup. It also depends on how good you are at applying false lashes. Just remember – the lashes are fun, but if you can’t put them on yourself, you can go to a local department store and any cosmetics counter that sells lashes will help you, or you can curl your lashes and coat them with your favorite mascara and forget the lashes all together!

Finish off with a fabulous red lip and vuala! You’re all set!

Not everyone gets to hear the phrase “you have a great personality” from Adrian Grenier’s mouth like I did last week. (cue the eye rolling :) )

I interviewed the Entourage actor at an event for his eco-website SHFT.com and their collaboration with Ford Motor Company.

Together, they are working on various projects related to environmental causes that help give people the tools to do good within their own communities. Between all the serious subjects, I found a way to ask him what we all want to know: what does he look for in a woman? We could have guessed he would say the usual Hollywood cliché “a hot blonde with big boobs” but what he actually said was very surprising: TEETH!!

Jokes aside, he actually says he wants a charitable woman who cares about others (awww). The full story will be up soon on SHAPE.COM. Meanwhile, he did seem to be a very down to earth guy and I wish him all the best!

What a “good morning” it was as I entered Calvin Klein’s Spring presentation recently. That’s because a mountain (literally, a mountain) of handsome models were right by the door wearing nothing but underwear to welcome an exclusive group of editors (hello, bumped into Joe Zee and Nina Garcia) to the new collection. One model was even showing his bum (I immediately blushed, LOL).  I’ve had the pleasure over the past year of working on some projects for the brand, hosting their fashion’s night out in their Georgetown CK Underwear store, as well as a fan chat/webcast alongside celebrity stylist Annabel Tollman. So, of course I had to come check out the wares we can expect in stores next season.

While nibbling a salmon appetizer and sipping on orange juice, I saw the brand’s beautiful clothes, house-ware items and shoes, which were exposed in a very modern way. They showed an interesting color palette which included white, green, blue, yellow, red and orange. The styles, although very “classic” Calvin, were amazingly done. Can’t wait to pick some up for myself!

Photos from the "Brastrocity" premiere!

As you all know, I’ve been greatly anticipating the grand premiere of my episode on Bravo’s Mad Fashion, Brastrocity.”  Last night, it finally became official!  Jené Luciani: Style Expert, Author, and …Bravo-lebrity. Has a nice ring, no?

I celebrated the event at West Village’s glam Downtown Galway Hooker with some of my fave people. Designer extraordinaire Chris March, who created my crazy couture bra dress for the show (hats off to him!), the rest of the Mad Fashion team (one in full drag!), the Doggie Moms, socialites, and NY Housewives Jill Zarin and Cindy Barshop were all in attendance in their beyond-fab glory.  We sipped Pisco Porton Bra-tini’s, treated ourselves to Shellac manis from Nail Gypsy, and tasted delicious Cupcakes by Missy throughout the night.

Let me tell you, the episode blew all of our bras off!   Chris even told me that I put the “bra” in Bravo LOL… Even though I ended up in worst dressed in Star and Cosmo, I still loved the look and thought it was a brilliant creation. He truly does embody Mad Fashion.

Ooo, and lest I forget to mention the amazing VIP gift bags I’m totally obsessed with!! Goodies from HUGGRZ, Caseable, Cookies.com, Helps Tea, Kusmi Detox Tea, Muse, Fresh Diet, May Cookie Co, G2 Organics, Vielle and Frances, UnMarx, Bella Fiore, WineTime and Skin of Gold made my night that much better :)

Did you watch last night? What did you think?
